Bones have been found in the Royal National Park in Sydney's south over the weekend.

It has been confirmed that the bones are human.

They were discovered in the park by a civilian just before 4.45pm on Saturday.

Police were then called to the area on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, and a crime scene was established.

The homicide squad is now investigating, with the gender and age of the remains yet to be determined.
