A woman has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly leaving a seven-week-old puppy in a car on Saturday.
Police allege the 28-year-old woman left the pup in a car parked at a shopping centre in Oran Park on a 40C day.
Officers were forced to smash a window rescue the distressed animal from the vehicle, which had reached 65C.
The dog was given water and placed inside an air-conditioned squad car.
The woman returned at about 3:15pm.
She will front court next month charged with fail to exercise care of an animal.
Police will continue to liase with the RSPCA over the welfare of the dog.
