We might be halfway through winter, but we are finally about to be hit with a crap load of snow!

Australia's south is about to be hit with some pretty powerful winds and snow and it is happening this week!

Senior Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe told 9news.com.au, "Complex low pressure system is bringing powerful winds, showers and isolated thunderstorms in South Australia.

Adding, “Some areas could pick up 40cm of snow with heavy falls expected in New South Wales… Snow during this complex synoptic setup remains likely, and to be heavy on western facing slopes, mainly falling between late-Monday through to Wednesday.”

"The Alps will see widespread 20-40cm falls, with the chance of slightly more. This is the strongest winter system we've seen so far this season"

While the winds are set to be pretty rough in SA today, NSW will cop it bad tomorrow through to Wednesday.

According to Weatherzone, yesterday was the coldest it has been all winter in Thredbo, Perisher and Cooma.

Saying, “The coldest location was Perisher Valley, where the mercury tumbled to -12 degrees soon after sunrise. At Thredbo it was -10.4 degrees, making it colder than any other morning so far this season.

“The most startling was Cooma, which had its coldest July night in six years, dropping to -9.7 degrees."
