A 73-year-old gardening enthusiast has almost amputated his own leg after assuming the role of Frankenstein and creating a hybrid angle grinder/circular saw death trap tool.
The man, from Castle Hill, somehow managed to attach the circular blade to his angle grinder, and planned to use it to cut down a tree.
However, in the process he was forced to remove the safety guard, and managed to near cut through his lower left leg.
According to the dailytelegraph.com.au, NSW Ambulance Chief Inspector Brian Parsell said that the man was lucky the contraption didn't kill him.
“The guard had been removed from the angle grinder to fit an improper blade to the power tool,” Inspector Parsell said.
“When paramedics arrived the saw blade had almost amputated his left lower leg.
“The man had lost a lot of blood and was severely compromised, requiring immediate resuscitation by the Intensive Care Paramedic team."
