You're not alone if you've noticed today's a little more gusty than normal.
Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Wescott told Triple M that today’s “damaging” winds – caused by a low pressure system sitting over the Tasman Sea – has made for “easily” the windiest day of 2017.
“This easily Sydney’s windiest day of the year and for some parts of Sydney and surrounds, it’s the windiest day that we’ve seen in several years,” she said.
“Parts of Sydney have reached wind speeds of well over 100 km/h, including Sydney Harbour, which gusted to 106 km/h just before lunchtime, and Sydney Airport which just recorded 100 km/h gusts at 2pm.”
And while predicting the winds would ease off this evening and into tomorrow, Ms Wescott recommends keeping the weather conditions in mind when planning for the weekend ahead.
“Certainly people should take heed of the current warnings around planning for activities the weekend, and also we do have large and powerful surf conditions this weekend,” she added.
“So it could be very hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing. So probably best placed to avoid the beach this weekend.”
