Father Who Left Toddler Locked In Car Was Confused After A 'Rough Night' 7 News

The father of the toddler locked in a hot car for 40 minutes has been located.

Police officers broke the window of the car earlier today after receiving a call about a boy, aged three, dehydrated and visibly distressed inside a Kia on Powell Street, Neutral Bay.

The man has said that he thought he had dropped the child off and was confused after a "rough night".

The father returned to the Neutral Bay apartment complex in the early afternoon.

“It was a rough night,” he said.

“I went to drop off my kid at the school; he fell asleep in the car. I thought I had dropped him off and I went to work.

“It’s a disaster, I hope that is doesn’t happen to any other parent. It’s your worst nightmare."

The boy was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he was treated for mild dehydration, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.

Police media have since clarified that the child was in the vehicle for approximately three hours.
