Face-Scanning To Replace Passports At Sydney Airports

Taking a flight is set to become a lot easier, with talk that passports are set to become a thing of the past.

Sydney Airport is going to be testing face-scanning in May, which will allow customers to use their face instead of their passport.

"There will be no more fumbling for your passport and boarding pass for each step of the process...instead your face will be your passport and your boarding pass at every stage of the journey," Sydney Airport chief executive Geoff Culbert said.

By the end of this year, passengers travelling on Qantas flights and are participating in the trial will be able to use their face for check in, bag drop, boarding and security screening.

Passports will only have to be shown once for verification.

If the trial proves to be a success, it will be extended to other airlines.
