A Sydney teacher has been named as one of the World's top 10 educators.
Cherrybrook Technology High School teacher Mr Eddie Woo stands to win $1.27 million if he takes the top prize for his WooTube maths tutorial videos.
The clips have been viewed more than 11 million times worldwide.
This comes barely a month after his award as Australian Local Hero and the Australia Day address he made.
Speaking with the 2DayFM breakfast team Em, Grant and Ed, Mr Woo said that he found out that he was a finalist during a late-night Skype conference call with the London organisers of the event. Listen to the full interview below.
"I screamed involuntarily because the kids were upstairs asleep," Mr Woo said.
"I still haven't come down from that shock to be honest."
Over 30,000 teachers worldwide were nominated for the prize.
The winner is announced in March in Dubai.
"As a mathematics teacher, you go to a party or a wedding and people say 'what do you do?'
"I've started describing myself as someone who is in charge of selling a product that no one wants to buy, but are required by law to pay for."
