Tourism visitation to the Murray region has boomed, according to the recent statistics released by Tourism Research Australia.
The results focused on the quarterly visitation statistics for year ending in June of this year.
Officials welcomed the results, finding that visitation for overnight visitors has boosted by 5.8 per cent, with 2.7 million tourists stopping by in that time.
The Mildura and Wentworth areas received 490 thousand domestic overnight visitors, up 3.5% on the previous quarter.
International overnight visitors to the Mildura Wentworth region increased by 8.4%, with 52.6% of those visitors coming for holidays.
International overnight visitors have spent an estimated 43 million dollars in the Murray region.
The results show food and wine continues to be a driver for local tourism growth.
