Local businesses and groups have thrown their support behind the petition for Karen's Law - being circulated by MP Peter Crisp and the Family of Karen Belej.
The initiative is in response to the plea deal accepted by the Crown for the sentencing of 37-year-old Brandon Osborn - who shot and killed his girlfriend Karen in her Mildura home last May.
The sentencing deal struck means Osborn may be free within six years.
With some believing the sentence is too lenient - the petition is calling for stricter mandatory minimum sentences for violent crimes.
MP Peter Crisp says he's incredibly grateful for the support.
The petition is now available to be signed online.
