The Federal Government has launched additional drought assistance for communities in need.
The Drought Communities Program has been extended to provide immediate relief to communities, officials announcing $75 million dollars will be going to eligible councils to address local needs.
The funds are hoped to deliver flexibility for councils to choose projects that will have the biggest impact, with local governments in New South Wales, Queensland, and two in Victoria on the list to receive funds.
Councils will be working to upgrade or build new community facilities, holding events and undertaking drought-relief activities, and carting portable water into communities for drinking and bathing.
The announcement follows the weekend's aid efforts in Pooncarrie, semi-trailers carrying feed and goods to drought affected communities.
