The Circa carnival comes to town with whimsical tales of creatures of land and sea, who tumble, fly, leap and spin their way through the many wondrous worlds of the animal kingdom. Carnival of the Animals captures the magic of acrobatic performance in a visually stunning theatre extravaganza.
Brisbane based Circa are renowned for creating wonderful works of circus art that thrill and captivate.
"It's a really wonderful piece. It's sophisticated and beautiful to look at. It's playful, it's lovely. It is a very different kind of show for Circa to be making as it really is a work for children, but it doesn't dumb it down in any way," says Artistic Director, Yaron Lifschitz, "It's that sense of wonder that this project starts with. If you aren't amazed that there are kangaroos and swans in the same world, you're kind of not thinking hard enough." Lifschitz continued.
Canival of the Animals is a magical reinvention of the classic musical suite by French Romantic composer, Camille Saint-Saëns and features wonderful projections by UK based Australian video designer Michaela French.
“I wanted to re-create the feeling I had as a child when I’d read a book and there was the sense that it might just be possible to slip into that imagined world and discover that it was real. This idea, this possibility, was how I imagined the world of the Carnival of the Animals” says French.
Depicting creatures from land, sea and sky, Circa’s performers dressed in elaborate costumes take children and their adults on a sublime journey through the lives of the tortoise, the elephant, the kangaroo, the swan, and many other beasts of fur, feathers and fin.
Carnival of the Animals brings the joy of the animal kingdom to the stage in a sophisticated and visually stunning extravaganza for children big and small.
