Rugby League World Cup trophy coming to Bunbury

Sports fans young and old will be able to get up close to Rugby League’s biggest prize when the Paul
Barrière Trophy comes to Bunbury on Tuesday, 23 May.

The trophy, awarded to the winners of the Rugby League World Cup, will be visiting Bunbury to promote
this year’s tournament, which includes a European double-header featuring England against France and
Ireland taking on Wales at nib Stadium in Perth on 12 November, while also increasing the profile of the
sport in regional areas.

A special Rugby League World Cup trophy function will be held at the Hay Park South Multi Sports Pavilion
from 4pm to 5pm with all fans invited to have a look and take a photo with the prized silverware.

The Paul Barrière Trophy is being brought to Bunbury by the Rugby League World Cup 2017 tournament
organisers and NRL WA, who will also be visiting schools in the area on the day.

City of Bunbury Co-ordinator Club and Group Services Gary Thompson said it will be an honour to host one
of world sport’s most prestigious trophies. “Rugby league has a strong following in the South West with five new junior clubs stretching from
Australind to Busselton taking to the field in 2017,” Mr Thompson said.

“Bringing the Rugby League World Cup trophy to Bunbury will also do wonders for the promotion of the
sport in the region. “We are looking forward to seeing school children, club members and the wider community take advantage
of this rare opportunity.”

The Rugby League World Cup 2017 will co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea from
27 October to 2 December with fans urged to get to the double-header in Perth to experience this
international event.
