GSSTA (Great Southern Sports Talent Association) has recently financially supported Oliver Pluckhahn (Athlete) and Rebecca Gleeson (Athletics Coach), Kelly Dominiak (Netball Coach) all from Denmark.
A presentation and photo opportunity is planned to take place in Denmark at McLean Park on Wednesday, 22nd November 2017 at 4.00pm.
Oliver Pluckhahn (14 yrs old) was successful in his Application for Athlete funding to receive personal trainer sessions to help prepare him for his attendance in the WA State Team that travelled to compete in the 25th International Athletics Championship in Malaysia in July.
Oliver received two session per week at the Denmark Recreation Centre leading up to his championships and this allowed him to maintain his fitness, strength and conditioning.
Rebecca Gleeson was successful in her Application for Coach Financial Support and attended a Level 2 Intermediate Club Coach Course in Perth in October.
Rebecca advised the course has given her resources to be able to design and deliver training sessions to support and extend some of our more senior athletes, who are already representing WA in their athletics disciplines.
Belinda Ross from Denmark Little Athletics supported the advancement of Rebecca’s coaching accreditations and believes it will ensure our Great Southern athletes are receiving the most up to date athletic coaching techniques and skills.
Kelly Dominiak was successful in her Application for Coach Financial Support and attended a three day Advanced Netball Coaching Accreditation Course in Perth in October designed for coaches who are coaching at representative and state level league. The course further educated coaches on the analysis of match and individual athlete’s performance, conditioning training, yearly planning and athlete well-being.
Kelly believes the measurement of success as a coach at regional/representative level is to ensure athletes within the Great Southern Netball Region are provided with highly effective programs ensuring athletes can advance with their technical and tactical skill and development into State level programs.
GSSTA also has funding available to support regional talent development programs, through financial assistance to Regional Associations of up to $5,000.
The GSSTA is assisted by the Department of Sport and Recreation with funding from Regions for Royalties and sponsorship support from Bendigo Bank.
