The State Government will contribute $280,000 towards bail support funding in Cherbourg.

The funds come in a bid to help reduce the number of children and young people on remand and make sure they meet court- imposed conditions.

Minister for Youth Justice Di Farmer says it is part of a plan to spend $17 million over the next 3 years to support young people charged or at risk of being charged with offences.

However, Nanango  MP Deb Frecklington says she thinks the budget is ridiculous and they are out of touch with reality.

"This Government has no idea about how they are being so soft on crime, and the effect it is having on our communities,” she said.

Cherbourg mayor Arnold Murray hoped the new program would work and said council were willing to give it a go.

The State Government will work with the community to determine what activities and programs will suit Cherbourg best.
