South Burnett Regional Council Turn to Debt Collectors to Retrieve Outstanding Money

South Burnett Regional Council is looking to recover some of the $5 million in outstanding rates and charges.

Debt collectors have been called in to collect some of the money from rate payers.

Mayor Keith Campbell says the debts put a huge financial strain on the council’s balance sheet.

He explained that regrettably there are approximately 10% of ratepayers in arrears, which equates to $5.3 million of outstanding rates and charges.  Whilst the majority of people are paying rates on time or through payment arrangements, the burden of this level of rate arrears impacts on all ratepayers. To reduce the financial drain on Council’s Balance Sheet in carrying this level of rate arrears, we have introduced a new debt recovery process.

Council has engaged the services of Recoveries & Reconstruction Australia Pty Ltd to assist manage Council’s rate arrears.

If you are experiencing difficulties in paying your rates, please contact Council’s Rates Section on (4189 9100 to discuss the options available.
