The South Burnett mum who has made headlines for her actions in protecting her baby and grandmother during the severe storm that ripped through the South Burnett on Thursday (October 11) will be recommended for a bravery award.

Fiona Simpson and her family were caught in the hail storm while driving to Kingaroy.   The hail smashed her car windscreen, while the incredibly large hail stones caused significant cuts and bruising to her body as the mother covered her baby for protection.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced yesterday that she will make the recommendation, while our Prime Minister Scott Morrison also praised Simpson for her efforts saying she is “one of the bravest people” after recently reading about the incident.
