Small local retailers in the South Burnett are backing a petition for the new proposed Kingaroy Bunnnings to reduce the developments size.
Businesses in the area are worried that the large development could drive out some of the smaller retailers and lead to underemployment.
Mayor Keith Campbell says that commercial competition isn’t taken into consideration when assessing development applications. He says overall the store will have benefits for the region with locals choosing to shop here instead of travelling to Bunnings in Toowoomba or Dalby.
Earl's Paint Manager Mark Petrakis has told the South Burnett Times that it's likely he will have to let at least one staff member go if the proposed development is approved.
