Kingaroy Peanut Growers Concerned with Imports from Argentina

The Federal Government says it is going to keep ‘an eye’ on the local peanut industry with news that Smut Disease has been found in a number of Argentinian crops.

More than 111,000 tons of peanuts are imported from Argentina to Australia every year, this has some Kingaroy growers concerned.

The decision to ban peanut imports from Argentina is out of the hands of the Federal Agricultural Minister with Barnaby Joyce saying he is unable to intervene in the decision to ban imports but is confident the Department of Agriculture will manage the threat.
