High school students from Griffith Regional Theatre's Senior Youth Theatre Group will take to the stage for Make a Scene, where they will perform five original plays by local playright, Donatella Parise, on Wednesday, October 24 at 7pm.
The group have been working with local actor and drama teacher, Bonnie Owen, since 2017, where they've been learning the art of performance, covering a range of theatre styles, group and solo work, script writing, improv and theatre games.
Ms Own is herself a product of the Griffith youth drama scene. She has performed in local musicals and theatre productions since the age of 15, and is now a respected actor and director with local theatre company, Griffith Regional Association of the Performing Arts (GRAPA).
Ms Owen said, “This is an amazing group of young people. They are all passionate about performance, they work really hard, and they get on well together. So we really wanted to offer them the chance to put all that effort and energy into a performance outcome.”
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Raina Savage said, "It is a real priority for us to promote and develop young local artists, and with so much talent and enthusiasm in the group it was a no-brainer to convert that into an opportunity to showcase the group, and provide some fantastic, local entertainment as well.”
“We are extremely lucky to have a playwright of the calibre of Donatella Parise in town, and it has been my ambition for some time to premier some of her original material in the Theatre,” Ms Savage said.
“When I saw her great work on a film project with local teenagers, we had found a perfect fit to create the original new scripts we needed.”
Four of the new scripts will be performed by the Theatre’s drama troupe, and one script will be performed by Ms Parise’s own acting students.
