Cr Paul Maytom and Cr George Weston have been re-elected as Leeton Shire Council's Mayor and Deputy Mayor at its September Ordinary Council Meeting. 

Director Corporate and Community Craig Bennett explained in his report to Council that both positions will be endorsed for a two year period by Council. 

Cr Paul Maytom was elected unopposed as Mayor and Cr George Weston won an ordinary ballot six votes to three over Cr Michael Kidd.

This is the 14th year of his 32 years on Council that Cr Paul Maytom will be serving as Mayor and this is the 12th year that Cr George Weston will be serving as the Deputy Mayor. 

Mayor Cr Paul Maytom said that he felt extremely honoured to be serving Council as Mayor for another Mayoral term and that he was looking forward to leading a team where every Councillor has the opportunity to drive progress across the Shire.

“I would like to thank the councillors for once again putting their confidence in me to serve as the Mayor of Leeton Shire Council for the next two years. It is a pleasure to lead such an effective Council that is delivering great outcomes for our community.”

“My commitment and passion is as strong as ever and I will be continuing to use my experience and relationships with neighbouring Councils, various agencies and government to ensure our community’s priority aspirations are met. It is becoming increasingly important to stand up and represent the people of Leeton Shire at a regional, state and federal levels and to ensure that our voice is heard in all the right places.”

Deputy Mayor George Weston also expressed his thanks for the faith shown in him by his fellow Councillors.

“I feel privileged to once again be elected as Deputy Mayor of Leeton Shire. I’m very keen to share my knowledge and experience with all Councillors and look forward to tackling the challenges and exciting opportunities ahead for our Shire with my fellow elected representatives.”
