Griffith City Council are inviting residents to attend a public meeting where they will present an update on the East Mirrool Regulator (EMR) next week at Yenda.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, September 18 2018 at 7:30pm at the Yenda Diggers Club.

This gives the community an opportunity to have questions answered and to learn more about the EMR.

Council have put the EMR Emergency Breaching Protocols and Decision Support Framework report out on public exhibition. It details the protocols that will be followed in the event of any future flooding of Mirrool Creek, including emergency breaching of the Main Canal, if required.

Councillor Dal Broi said “the protocols provide guidance as to how the responsible authorities can and should manage operation of the flood gates and emergency breaching of the Main Canal embankments at the EMR in response to a flood event”.

“The development of these protocols provides an understanding as to the impact of the emergency management of Mirrool Creek flood waters,” Cr Dal Broi said.

“Importantly it provides the necessary knowledge to enable stakeholders to commit to an agreed process for the response to flooding of Mirrool Creek and to understand the impacts of the actions that are to be taken.”

The report also includes discussion of key information and techniques and is structured in a chronological format that's reflective of the decision process that would be undertaken during a flood event. This includes advanced warning and preparation, flood event monitoring and response and emergency breaching.

It outlines the responsibilities of stakeholders: Griffith City Council, Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI), Bureau of Meteorology, State Emergency Service and Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Office of Water.

If you'd like an electronic copy of the EMR Emergency Breaching Protocols and Decision Support Framework report, you can download it from www.griffith.nsw.gov.au. Alternatively, a hard copy can be viewed at the Council Chambers and Griffith City Library during normal office hours.

Anyone wishing to make a submission on the report can do so in writing and addressed to the General Manager, Griffith City Council. Submissions will be received up to 4pm, Thursday 4 October 2018.
