Every year, Homelessness Australia coordinates a week dedicated to raising awareness in the issues and solutions relating to homelessness in Australia. This year the event will run from the 6th – 12th August.

With more than 1,400 people having sought homelessness support in the last year in Griffith, Mayor John Dal Broi is calling on the community to take part in the initiative as the Griffith City Council addresses affordable housing in the city.

“Housing is a big issue, we understand that and we are looking at how it can best be addressed… This is something that we take seriously. Council recently received a grant for affordable housing, which will be put towards looking at what can be done.”

As part of Homelessness Week, a display will be set up at Banna Avenue on Wednesday 8th August, providing insight into the issue of homelessness.

Council’s Community Development Coordinator, Peta Dummett, encouraged residents to take the time to visit the display, stating, “As a community we need to show our support of those people who find themselves homeless for whatever reason.”
