Leeton Shire Council is holding a free child restraint checking morning at the Leeton Market Plaza this Saturday, March 17 from 9am-12pm.
Parents and caregivers of young children are encouraged to go along to find out more about child restraint laws and they can get their child restraints checked for correct installation by a qualified Roads and Maritime Services approved fitter.
Leeton Shire Road Safety Officer Steph Puntoriero said there still appears to be a need for education in our community about the safe installation of child car seats, mainly for grandparents.
“This is a grave concern as unless a restraint is correctly fitted it will not
protect a child in the event of a crash, or even if the driver has to brake
suddenly to avoid a collision.”
“Parents and carers appear to get the message that they need a restraint
but many do not have it correctly fitted. It is often the case that a simple $5
plastic clip can improve the safety of a child passenger.”
If you're looking to have a child restraint checked of fitted, you can contact an RMS authorised restraint fitting station.
