Council Supports Applications For Part Closure Of Blight and Blyth Roads

Leeton Shire Council has endorsed the road closure applications of P & D Stott for the closure of Blight Road (between Murrami Road South and Blyth Road) and a section of Blyth Road (between Blight Road and Briggs Road).

It's been said that P & D Stott have expressed interest in purchasing the road reserve for farming operations, including plans to decommission a section of Murrumbidgee Irrigation supply and to improve drainage on the property.

Manager Engineering and Technical Services Barry Heins stated in his report to council, “the sections of Blight Road and Blyth Road in question are both unformed roads and not an important part of the road network. They have both had no capital investment from Council.”

The ownership of this road reverts back to the Crown and P & D Stott will be required to deal with the Crown directly regarding purchasing the land.

Affected landholders will be notified in writing by Crown Lands and given the opportunity to provide comment or objection.

A letter of consent signed by Council’s General Manager Jackie Kruger will be provided to include with the applications of P & D Stott to NSW Crown Lands.
