Increase in pre-poll to blame

Wagga may now have to wait until the weekend for a final result from Saturday's by-election.

The NSW Electoral Commission has just revised its timeline for the counting process and is now not expected to distribute preferences until Friday afternoon.

They've cited an increase in pre-poll votes and in the number of ballot papers marked with multiple preferences as well as the close result as contributing factors adding additional time to the count.

The latest numbers released this morning are still showing the Liberals' Julia Ham in front with 24.7% of the primary vote, but she's expected to lose to Independent Joe McGirr, once preference votes are added.
