Rabbit Virus To Be Released

Pet Rabbit Owners Should Vaccinate

Rabbit Virus To Be Released

Gundagai will be one of 3 intensive management sites, as the NSW DPI prepares for a new release of the rabbit virus RHDV1 K5.

Letters and information kits are being mailed out across the state ahead of the virus release planned for next month, experts saying it’s the Korean strain of a naturally-occurring rabbit virus that was first released here more than a decade ago.

The DPI is advising owners of pet rabbits in the affected areas to vaccinate their pets, and either keep them inside, or in an insect-proof enclosure.

Local vets can provide advice, and there’s more information about the virus release here
