An off-duty police officer has been charged with drink driving, and has had his license suspended, after being stopped for a random breath test in Cootamundra.

Police say it happened at about 12.45am on Sunday, on Berthong Road, with the senior constable, attached to a specialist command within the Western Region, returning a positive roadside breath test.

A later breath analysis at the Cootamundra Police Station reportedly returned a reading of 0.083.

The officer was issued with a field court attendance notice for mid-range PCA, and will face court in Cootamundra on July 3
