Nationals Hold On in Cootamundra and Murray By-Elections

The NSW Nationals’ Steph Cooke has claimed victory in the seat of Cootamundra after Saturday’s by-election with the Nationals also winning Murray, despite a strong swing against them in both electorates.

In conceding defeat for Cootamundra, Country Labor candidate Charlie Sheahan pointed out the 20% swing against the Nationals, saying it's now a marginal seat.

The Nationals have also claimed victory in the seat of Murray, with 72% of votes counted, Nationals candidate Austin Evans is leading the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers' Helen Dalton 53.4% to 46.6% after preferences.
