Local MP Sussan Ley insists she is still against live sheep exports, despite her decision to vote against a bill in Parliament, which was seeking to ban them.

The Member for Farrer and her Liberal collegue Sarah Henderson, who are both against live exports, had the deciding votes, but since they've been elevated to the front bench, they can't cross the floor to vote with the opposition.

Ms Ley says though, she wouldn't have supported yesterday's bill anyway, because it was just an attempt by Labor to disrupt the government's program of legislation.

She also says she is still working towards a sensible phase-out of live exports.
