Interim Report Finds Urgent Need for Reform

An independent investigation into NSW Water Management and Compliance has released its interim report, finding that significant reform is needed, as current water-related compliance and enforcement arrangements have been ineffectual.

It follows an ABC report which aired in July, making allegations of illegal water extraction and collusion in the Northern Murray Darling Basin, which raised a number of concerns about compliance and management systems.

Ken Matthews, who’s leading the independent investigation, says in light of his recent findings, he now shares these concerns.

He’s recommended a series of reforms, collectively titled the Water Management Compliance Improvement Package.
