The Murrumbidgee Local Health District is reminding local residents of the importance of hand hygiene, as it works with Wagga Base Hospital to contain a number of cases of viral gastroenteritis in the rehabilitation ward.

Acting Director of Wagga Base Hospital, Tony Burns says outbreaks of viral gastroenteritis increase in winter, and are common within families or group settings, like hospitals, aged care homes, schools or childcare centres.

Mr Burns says it’s very important if you're sick to stay home from school or work for at least 48 hours after symptoms cease, and that you don’t visit anyone in hospital or aged care facilities.
