Financial Incentives for Seasonal Picking

A Federal Government trial program has kicked off, offering incentives to unemployed locals to take up seasonal horticulture work for up to 6 weeks, and to the local businesses giving them a start.

Riverina MP Michael McCormack has described it as a win-win, supporting the needs of the horticulture sector for seasonal labour, while also providing skills and work experience to job seekers.

The trial, which got underway this month will run for two years, and is capped at 7,600 participants.
