Farmers Urged to Monitor Mice

Riverina grain farmers are being urged to keep up the surveillance for any signs of mouse activity, with the small pests becoming a big problem in parts of Southern NSW.

CSIRO researcher Steve Henry says he’s seeing a lot of damage in barley, rice, canola and wheat across the region.

He says it’s critical that on-farm control programs continue through winter, because bringing even a small infestation through to spring will create a massive problem in summer.

Mr Henry is also encouraging growers and advisers to report and map mouse presence, absence and level of activity using MouseAlert.
