Removal 'May Be Required'

Wagga City Council has expressed disappointment at the ‘over-pruning’ of trees in Central Wagga this week by Essential Energy, saying it threatens the health of the tree and can compromise its structural integrity.

Council released a statement via Facebook, saying it understands the necessity of managing vegetation around or near powerlines, but it supports only minimal pruning, to provide the required clearance distances of three metres.

Instead, in a number of cases this week, the whole crown of the tree has been removed.
Council says its staff will now monitor these trees, some of which are more than 60 years old, saying removal could be required if the trees do not recover adequately.
