The Murray Riverina Business Chamber is calling for changes to the delivery of employment services under the Federal Government’s Job Active program, to help address youth unemployment.

It comes as figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show the RIVERINA’S youth unemployment rate is 13.9%, compared to the state average of 10.4%, the gap is even bigger in Murray, with youth unemployment at 22%.

The Chamber’s Regional Manager Andrew Cottrill says the figures are disappointing, given the long-running and well-publicised concerns of employers in most industry sectors regarding skill shortages.
