A date has finally been set for the Wagga by-election, with local voters set to go to the polls on September 8, to vote for a new state representative.

Shelley Hancock, the Speaker of NSW Parliament set the date yesterday afternoon, advising the Electoral Commissioner of her intention to issue a writ on August 17, at which point candidate nominations will officially open.

Nominations will close on August 23, with early voting to start on August 27.
