A new report has shown just how severe the impact of long daycare centre fees is having on families, with prices soaring as high as $452 a week.
According to The Productivity Commission’s annual report on government services, long daycare centre fees are, on average, $10 more a week than they were last year, with the Bureau of Statistics stating that childcare costs have increased by 4.9%!
Even family daycare fees - which are cheaper at approximately $415 per week - are $27 higher than the national average, at $388.
The raised fees means that low-income families are now spending approximately 29.3% of their disposable income (before subsidies) on one child in daycare full-time.
