The new State Government have confirmed their keenness to proceed with a law that will make it mandatory for drivers to give cyclists a clearance gap of one metre when passing them on the roads.
At the very least, the Minister for Road Safety, Michelle Roberts, has reaffirmed her support for at least a trial of the proposed law.
Of course, there’s an education campaign out at the moment featuring the one and only Dennis Cometti, spruiking the one metre gap message.
One thing is for certain, tensions between Perth drivers and cyclists remain at concerning levels, so it remains to be seen as to whether this initiative will help drivers and cyclists share the roads in peace.
