A former Perth private school teacher has been jailed for 16 months for possessing thousands of images of child sexual exploitation.
Jeffrey Jay McKinnell, 39, who taught at the elite Guildford Grammar School, had 3009 images on his computer.
McKinnell stood trial in the WA District Court where he held his face in his hands and repeatedly shook his head after the jury returned its verdict in February.
He had claimed that because he had a habit of downloading a lot of pornography, he inadvertently had the child exploitation images on his laptop.
He told police he was not interested in "kiddie porn".
McKinnell was sentenced on Friday and will be eligible for parole after serving eight months behind bars.
