It's been a horror weekend on the roads around Port Stephens for the local koala population.
Wildlife rescuers say at least five koalas have been hit by cars.
Sadly at least one has died, while a second has a fractured leg.
The condition of the other three is unknown.
It's prompted a plea for drivers to take more care behind the wheel.
"Our local koalas have been under threat from over-development for years and they're now having to cross roads they've never had to before because their homes are no longer there," Port Stephens MP Kate Washington said.
