Shark Identified After Birubi Beach 'Attack'

Authorities have worked out what type of shark bit a surfer on the foot at Birubi Beach on Saturday morning.

The Department of Primary Industries looked at the 31 year old's bite marks and identified the shark as a fairly harmless Wobbegong, measuring 1m to 1.5m.

Wobbegongs generally aren't dangerous to humans and usually only bite people who've accidentally stepped on them in shallow water.

Birubi Beach was closed following the incident.
