A notorious crash hotspot on Raymond Terrace Road at Nelson Plains is getting a long awaited safety upgrade.
A roundabout's being installed at the intersection with Seaham Road to reduce the number of crashes, with work starting this Sunday.
In the six years to April 2018, there have been 26 accidents there - 18 of them resulted in injuries.
“The majority of these crashes involved motorists turning right at the intersection,” Port Stephens Duty MLC, Hon Catherine Cusack said.
Working hours will be between 6am and 6pm every day. It is expected that the work will be completed in eight weeks, weather permitting.
Some work will need to be carried out at night as the project progresses.
A 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours.
