Plans to build the new Pelican boat ramp on prime beachfront have been officially scrapped.
Lake Macquaire council was considering moving the ramp to a sandy area 170 metres south of its current location, but Mayor Kay Fraser says it's clear the community is dead against the idea.
“In total, Council received nearly 6000 submissions through its online survey and community-driven petition, and hundreds attended a pop-up information stall.”
“I’m pleased the voice of residents and Pelican foreshore users has been heard and the swimming area will be protected.”
Four new options have been put forward instead, which include:
1. Building a new boat ramp at the existing location.
2. Upgrading the boat ramp at Naru Reserve.
3. Constructing a new facility 300m south of the existing Pelican boat ramp.
4. Installing a new ramp adjacent to the NSW Maritime boat ramp on Pelican foreshore.
