The state government has announced it'll build and run Maitland's new hospital by itself.
The Health Minister has ruled out any involvement from the private and not-for-profit sectors, following backlash from the unions.
“I have always said that the community would continue to receive free public health care no matter what and that we would evaluate proposals on the basis that there is a greater benefit to the community than can be delivered by Government funding alone," Brad Hazzard said.
“After much consideration, we have decided on a public health-led approach for the brand new Maitland Hospital at Metford."
Ground preparation is already underway, with building work is expected to kick off later this year.
The Health Minister expects the new hospital will be ready within 3 to 4 years.
