A man has died after being found suffering serious injuries in a Cessnock backyard.
Emergency services were called to a property in Edith Street at around 11pm Tuesday night, finding the 36 year old in a critical condition.
He died a short time later.
A 31 year old woman and 32 year old man attended Cessnock Police Station shortly afterwards.
The woman has bene released while the man remains in custody.
Police say it's being treated as a domestic incident, while it appears the victim was hit by a 4WD.
"We believe a car was involved in the man's death," Chief Inspector Peter Vromans said.
A Nissan Patrol has been seized by police.
