Firefighter Knocked Unconscious By Falling Tree

A firefighter remains in a serious but stable condition in John Hunter Hospital, after being hit by a falling tree branch.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighter was working on the 695 bushfire near Putty on Tuesday afternoon when he was knocked unconscious by the large branch.

He was winched out by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter suffering shoulder and rib injuries.

The fire is listed as being controlled having burnt out more than 18,500 hectares of the Wollemi National Park and Putty State Forest.
