CONFIRMED: Newcastle's New Airline Route Is....Adelaide!

Adelaide has been revealed as the new destination passengers can fly to from Newcastle.

Direct flights between Williamtown and the South Australian capital will take off in March, with FlyPelican to operate the two-hour service.

There'll be three return flights a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, however more flights will be added depending on demand.

FlyPelican will use Fokker jet aircraft, seating 80 or 100 passengers.

Fares begin from $249 (inclusive of taxes) with no extra charge for in-flight catering and checked baggage.

Newcastle Airport CEO Peter Cock said the direct flight will reduce return travel time by up to 8 hours.

"Community demand for the Adelaide route has been very strong and we are thrilled to be working with FlyPelican and Adelaide Airport to deliver this direct service to passengers. This is another step for us in creating the airport the region deserves,” he said.

Adelaide Airport CEO Mark Young is looking forward to the inaugural service in March.

"Newcastle has been one of our largest unserved markets and we’ve been keen to secure a service between our two cities for some time," he said.

FlyPelican says more new services could be introduced once the Adelaide service is up and running.

"If you look at Newcastle Airport's social media there's a lot of demand for Perth, Sunshine Coast and Auckland..let's wait and see!" the airline's CEO Paul Graham said.

Newcastle Airport now connects with nine domestic destinations.
