Police have charged six people over a car theft racket targeting Nissan Patrols around Lake Macquarie.
Officers found 15 stolen Patrols last weekend, which had been dumped in bush mainly around West Wallsend and Killingworth.
Vehicles were also found at Edgeworth.
Police say thieves have been targeting this particular type of 4WD for their parts.
"Thieves have been taking their engines, gear boxes and other parts on the vehicles, before being stripped down and sold, and placed in other Patrols," Acting Inspector Anita Cruze said.
More arrests are expected.
