There are a few scams around at the moment, with people trying to take advantage of tax time.

One particularly real-looking scam that has surfaced involves a fake myGov form accompanied by a tax refund offer.

The email claims to come from myGov, with the subject 'Important information regarding your account'.

This then prompts the receiver to click on a link to claim a refund - however the link in fact leads to a fake form requesting personal information and bank details.

"It's tax time and the common scam email informing that you're eligible for a tax refund is doing the rounds again," a Stay Safe Online warning said.

"Scammers have long used the promise of a tax refund to trick people into sharing their personal information or to download malware."

Remember: the ATO and myGov will NEVER send an email or SMS asking you to click on a link and provide login, personal or financial information, download a file or open an attachment.
